What makes the MA-2 different from everything else

The MA-2 is a true OTL — Output TransformerLess — design. Where virtually every other amplifier, tube or solid-state, inserts an output transformer between the circuit and the speaker, the MA-2 connects directly. The output transformer is one of the most significant sources of coloration, phase error, and bandwidth limitation in conventional amplifiers. Removing it entirely is technically demanding and only a handful of manufacturers in the world have mastered it. Atma-Sphere has been doing it longer and better than anyone.

The result is a directness and immediacy that is simply not available elsewhere. Transients arrive with a physical authority that makes conventional amplifiers — regardless of price — sound slightly blurred by comparison. The harmonic structure of voices, strings, and brass is reproduced with a completeness and accuracy that reveals how much other amplifiers, however fine, are filtering and shaping the signal.
